Guwahati NIA Court Awards 5 yrs RI To 2 In Terror Recruitment Case
Guwahati: Two people were given five-year prison sentences by a special NIA court in connection with a case involving the recruitment of terrorists in Guwahati.
The accused duo has been identified as Shahnowaj Alom and Omar Faruque , both residents of Assam.
Information indicates that both of them are charged with recruiting individuals to build a state-based Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) module.
The two defendants were found guilty on Friday by the NIA court and given five years of solitary confinement under sections 120B of the Indian Penal Code, 18, 18B, 19 and 38 of the UA(P) Act. The court also imposed a fine on them.
The matter was initially reported to Jamunamukh Police Station in the Hojai district on September 14, 2018.
The NIA updated their registration of the case on October 5, 2018.
Shanawaj Alam was arrested on September 13, 2018 due to his strong ties with Md. Kamruz Zaman an alleged Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) terrorist.
Investigations indicated that the suspects Kamruj Zaman, Shahnawaz Alom, Saidul Alam, Omar Faruk and others conspired to gather followers for the purpose of establishing a terror organization’s module in Assam.
