Assam: Leopard Tranquilized After 24 Hours in Jorhat
Guwahati: After a day of continuous work by the forest department, the leopard that had been terrorising residents of Jorhat in Assam and wounding a number of them was finally captured on Tuesday morning.
The forest officials said that the search has been ongoing since yesterday at 10 am. Within a quarter, they had the leopard tranquillized and in their possession.
The leopard was injured during the tranquilization process, and as a result, he will be examined by a doctor.
Following a medical examination, the forest department will make a decision regarding the leopard.
The leopard has already been escorted to the office of the regional forest officer; later, it will be sent to Kaziranga.
It should be noted that when the leopard terrorised a region on Monday, at least 15 people have been injured, including three members of the forest service.
The incident occurred near to the Chenijan Rain Forest Research Institute in Jorhat.
The irate leopard first attacked a family which included a father, mother and their two children at Sotai area of the district.
After learning of the situation, the forest officials rushed to the area armed with rifles and firecrackers to drive the leopard out of the area. They reported that two forest officials had been injured during the incident.
