25th Anniversary of TMC, West Bengal Governor Mamata Banerjee Wishes Citizens
Guwahati: On the occasion of the Trinamool Congress’ 25th anniversary of its founding, West Bengal’s chief minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee posted a message on Twitter thanking everyone for believing in the strength of Maa, Maati, and Manush (mother, soil and human).
She also remembered the party’s struggles throughout the years and how party members had helped people gain power, fight injustice, and cultivate optimism.
“This day, 25 years ago, TMC came into existence. I recall our struggles through the years & the role we have played in empowering people, fighting injustice and inspiring hope. I heartily congratulate everyone for believing in the power of MAA, MAATI, MANUSH,” tweeted Mamata.
Mamata’s disagreement with the Congress led to the formation of the Trinamool Congress. On January 1st, 1998, she resigned from Congress and founded TMC. In 2016, the TMC which first gained popularity as a regional party attained national status.
After overthrowing the left’s 34-year rule in West Bengal in 2011, the party has remained in power ever since winning three straight statewide elections.
With 23 members in the Lok Sabha and 13 in the Rajya Sabha, it is currently the third-largest party in parliament behind the BJP and the Congress.
