Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 1 stated that there are now 3000 job vacancies in the state police department and that all of these positions will be filled shortly.

The Chief Minister stated that the government will post an advertisement to fill the positions within a day or two while speaking with editors and senior journalists of newspapers, TV channels, and digital platforms at the NOTUN DINOR AALAP on the first day of the New Year in 2023 in Koinadhora, Guwahati.

” Once the vacancies are filled up , Assam police will be one of the rare force where there will be no vacancies, the CM said.

He further said that the Assam government will have an adequate number of police officers if the openings were filled.

The Assam government has decided to offer jobs to one police officer who has lost their life in the line of duty since 1985, according to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier on December 7. The CM stated it is the responsibility of the government to honour their sacrifices by giving jobs to the members of the families of “Martyred” Police.

The state cabinet also approved Rs 525 Crore to make 162 new police stations under the Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) programme, a project started by the Assam government in 2016 for the construction or reconstruction of police stations.

The Chief Minister said that Palasabari police station in Kamrup district will become the state’s first “integrated police station” among those police stations that will be refurbished with modern infrastructures.

Additionally, the state cabinet resolved to reserve at least 2% of Grade I and Grade II post employment for former service members. It also authorised the idea to issue almost 40 lakh additional ration cards in the state along with building a 250 MW solar power facility in collaboration with ONGC.

A new forest battalion with 1100 troops will also be formed in Lakhimpur. Additionally, the state’s forest department will be accepting applications for about 1700 available positions.
