Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Tuesday that the administration does not require the assistance of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) or the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) in order to redraw the state’s election borders.
When he made the remarks, CM Sarma was in Raha in the Nagaon district of Assam. He gave the occasion official government recognition while he was present on Jongal Balahu Diwas.
Speaking to a crowd there, the Assam chief minister declared, “AIUDF and AAMSU have no role to play in the creation or omission of districts as well, and will not have anything to do with it in the future too. We do not require their support for the process.”
Speaking about the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) chief Paresh Baruah, CM Sarma said, “I am not asking Paresh Baruah to give up any of his rights. I cannot come to the negotiation table with him till there is sovereignty.”
“It is the people of Assam who will guide the state government as well as ULFA,” he further added.
It should be mentioned that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had already said that Jongal Balahu Diwas will receive official state recognition.
He revealed this at a gathering of the general people held in Nagaon’s Raha at Jongal Balahu Garh. According to the Assam Chief Minister, Jongal Balahu Diwas will be formally observed on January 3.
CM Sarma said, “As a mark of respect to the Tiwa king Jongal Balahu and the contributions of the Tiwa community towards enriching Assam’s cultural mosaic, we have decided to accord official recognition to Jongal Balahu Diwas.”
“Our government is working for the development of the Jongal Balahu Garh. The area will be developed into a tourist centre within 18 months. Rs 100 crores have been approved for the project. The centre will help throw light on the community’s role in building an inclusive society,” Sarma further said.
Himanta Biswa Sarma performed Bhumi Pujan for the Jongal Balahu tourist centre at Raha today. He also offered floral tributes at the statue of Tiwa ruler Jongal Balahu.
