Guwahati: Satgaon PS Constable Reserve Closed For Bribery Charges
Guwahati: A police constable at the Satgaon Police Station in Guwahati on Monday was placed on administrative leave because she was accused of trying to rob and bribe a woman.
The police constable allegedly sought money from a woman in order to settle a lawsuit.
The tainted cop was identified as Nripen Kalita. The victim woman also alleged that Kalita tried to kill her when she refused to pay.
Meanwhile, no action has been initiated against the officer in-charge of the Satgaon Police Station, Monjit Burhagohain.
The Guwahati Central Police’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) is looking into the situation.
It should be noted that the Bharalumukh Police Station was instructed by the Gauhati High Court to file proceedings against nine of its police officers.
The court mandated Wednesday that Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ponjit Dowara be the subject of an investigation by Bharalumukh Police.
Additionally, as per the court’s directive, cases must be filed against Inspector Pritam Saikia, Sub-Inspector (SI) Kankan Mahanta, SI Afzal Hussain, ASI Sanat Kumar Mudoi, Constable Rajendra Yadav, Jadumoni Nath, Rubul Nath, and Home Guard Babul Ali.
It should be mentioned that the court’s instruction was given in relation to a case involving the inhumane torture of an accused within a police station in 2018.
The complainant, Manoj Kumar Upadhyay had approached the court mentioning custodial torture during his three day detention for a case registered at Bharalumukh Police Station numbered 344/2018 u/s 120(B)/294/507/509/34 of IPC read with Section 67(A) of Information Technology Act, 2000.
