Guwahati: The Manipur government has asked that the organisers to cancel a fashion show that was supposed to take place in Imphal on Sunday and feature actress Sunny Leone as a guest due to a grenade blast.
A powerful hand grenade exploded in Hapta Kangjeibung of Imphal on Saturday where the fashion show was scheduled to be held.
An official announced that the event had been cancelled following the explosion and that the Deputy Commissioner of the Imphal East District had revoked the authorization given to hold the fashion show at Hapta Kangjeibung.
“The permission for the fashion show was cancelled with immediate effect in view of the prevailing law-and-order situation,” the official said, quoting the DC’s order.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Police suspected that the explosion was the result of underground militants.
The explosion took place 100 metres from the location of Sunday’s fashion show.
So far, no militant group or individual has taken responsibilty. A case was reported at the police station in Porompat.
The purpose of the fashion show was to promote Manipur’s handicrafts, khadi goods and tourism.
