225 candidates in fray Nagaland Assembly polls

Guwahati: Scrutiny of documents for candidates is all set to take place across Nagaland on Wednesday.

The Election Commission of Nagaland has started reviewing the nominations that have been submitted so far for the assembly elections in 2023 after the nomination filing period ended on February 7.

There are currently 225 individuals registered to run for office in Nagaland.

As of February 7, 124 candidates had submitted their candidatures for the 2019 Nagaland Assembly Elections.

According to records from the Nagaland CEO’s office, Mokokchung had the most nominations submitted with 19, followed by Mon with 17 and Kohima, Wokha, and Phek with 13 apiece.

On the other hand, four women representing a variety of political parties and independents have submitted their candidature.

BJP candidate V. Kashiho Sangtam from the 59 AC Seyochung – Sitimi filed his papers at the RO office Kiphire HQ to run in the forthcoming assembly election in Nagaland on February 7. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, Skill Development, Electronics & Technology, Nalin Kohli, and tens of thousands of his supporters were there as he filed his nomination.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) said that conducting, publishing or publicizing of exit polls by any means of prints or electronic media will be prohibited in the State from 7:00A.M of 16th till 7.00PM of 27th February.

In a notification, the ECI also stated that in accordance with Section 126(1)(b) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, it would be unlawful for 48 hours following the polling hours to display any election-related information, including the findings of any opinion poll or other poll survey in any electronic media.
