Sandeep Mehta To Take Oath As Chief Justice of the Gauhati HC Today
Guwahati: Justice Sandeep Mehta is set to take oath as the new Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court on Wednesday.
Justice Sandeep Mehta arrived in Guwahati on Tuesday night.
The oath taking ceremony will take place at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan.
Justice Sandeep Mehta was appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court last Sunday.
The position of Chief Justice became vacant after Justice RM Chhaya retired.
Senior judge Justice Sandeep Mehta was appointed to the Rajasthan High Court in May 2011. His retirement date is set for January 2025.
He was chosen to be Chief Justice on the advice of the Supreme Court Collegium.
The notice issued by the ministry read, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Sandeep Mehta, Judge of the High Court of Rajasthan to be the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
It should be noted that Justice Mehta began his career as an advocate in 1986.
He was the Bar Council of Rajasthan’s deputy chairman from 2004 to 2005 and as chairman in 2010.
