Indian Army’s First MRSAM Regiment Is Formed Under Eastern Command

Guwahati: The first Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) Regiment is being established in the Eastern Command, providing a substantial boost to the Indian Army’s strengthening of its air defence and capability along its northern borders.

Defense Research and Development Organization’s MRSAM Weapon System was specifically developed for the Regiment (DRDO).

Modern medium range air defence weapon system developed by DRDO and Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) with active participation from Indian public and commercial defence industry partners, including MSMEs, is known as the MRSAM weapon system or “Abhra” weapon system.

On Thursday, Lt Gen RP Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, emphasised that India will soon become self-reliant in defence production thanks to this enormous step towards indigenization in the defence sector, in keeping with the stated goal of “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
