India slams Pakistan for raking up Kashmir issue at UNSC Debate

Guwahati: India’s Permanent Representative, Ruchira Kamboj criticised Pakistan on Tuesday in response to Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari bringing up the issue of Jammu and Kashmir at a Security Council discussion on women, peace, and security.

Kamboj said that it is “unworthy” to even respond to such “malicious and misleading propaganda”. She regarded his statement as “baseless and politically motivated”.

Kamboj said, “Before I conclude, let me dismiss the frivolous, baseless and politically motivated remarks made by the delegate of Pakistan regarding the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.”

“My delegation considers it unworthy to even respond to such malicious and false propaganda.” “Rather, our focus is where it shall always be – positive and forward-looking. Today’s discussion is critically important to strengthen our collective efforts to accelerate the full implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda. We respect the topic of the debate and recognise the importance of time. As such, our focus shall remain on the topic,” she added.

On the eve of International Women’s Day, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Zardari alluded to Jammu and Kashmir in his remarks at a Council debate held under Mozambique’s Presidency for this month.

India has previously informed Pakistan that Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, which are both Union Territories, have always been and would always be a part of India.

India has made it clear that it wants Pakistan and its neighbours to get along. It also stated that Islamabad was responsible for fostering a hostile and terror-free environment so that both countries could maintain their state of peace.

The relationship between India and Pakistan reportedly suffered after Indian aeroplanes attacked a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist training centre in Pakistan’s Balakot in reaction to the Pulwama terror incident in February 2019.
