Budget Session of Assam Legislative Assembly Begins Today
Guwahati: The Assam Legislative Assembly’s budget session will begin on Friday at Dispur in Guwahati. The budget meeting will continue till April 5.
According to reports, Assam Legislative Assembly’s budget session would span a total of 14 sittings between today and April 5.
Reportedly, the newly appointed Governor Gulab Chand Kataria is scheduled to deliver the opening remarks of the Assam Legislative Assembly’s budget session. The Governor will speak to the house members today.
Moreover, Assam finance minister Ajanta Neog would thereafter propose the budget on March 15. The Assam Legislative Assembly’s current session is expected to see the introduction of a few new and revised measures.
It should be mentioned that an all-party meeting to plan strategies began on Thursday before the budget session.
It is believed that the opposition would attempt to isolate the government by raising concerns like eviction and the treatment of child marriage, among others. Security has also been stepped up in and around Dispur where the Assam secretariat is located, ahead of the budget session.
It should be noted that the all-party meeting, presided over by Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, was conducted in the Central Hall of the House prior to the Assam budget session.
All of the MLAs from the government and opposition parties were present for the meeting. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also joined the all-party meeting.
Taking to Twitter, CM Sarma wrote, “Ahead of the Assembly Budget Session from tomorrow, took part in a meeting chaired by Hon Speaker Shri @BiswajitDaimar5 with leaders of all political partied at Central Hall of the Assembly.”
“Sought everyone’s support for smooth conduct of the Budget Session,” he added.
Earlier, Assam finance minister Ajanta Neog had claimed that the budget for this financial year for the state will be realistic. Speaking on the upcoming budget session of Assam, Ajanta Neog had claimed, “I am giving my word, this year’s budget is going to be realistic and the capital expenditure will increase.”
