‘Police-To-Police Cooperation’: Assam CM On 4 Close Aides Of Amritpal Taken To Dibrugarh

Guwahati: As many as four arrested aides of Waris Punjab De leader Amritpal Singh were transported to Dibrugarh district of Assam on March 19 marking a significant development in the continuing campaign against pro-Khalistani organisations in Punjab.

A 27-member team from the Punjab Police including the IG Prison, reportedly taken the four people who is identified as Daljit Singh Kalsi, Bhagwant Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Pradhanmantri Bajeka to Dibrugarh Central Jail.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called the move “police-to-police cooperation,” and said that it was completely the call of Punjab Police. “Earlier we had sent prisoners from Assam to Bihar, and this is police-to-police cooperation. I have nothing to say on this. The prisoners are brought here for security purposes as well,” he said.

The four of Amritpal Singh’s assistants were received at Mohanbari Airport by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dibrugarh under tight security. The top cop in Assam will now take on the case of Singh’s assistants.

A large statewide cordon and search operation against members of the Waris Punjab De organisation against whom multiple cases have been filed was conducted by the Punjab Police prior to the development.

Punjab has stepped up its campaign against pro-Khalistani organisations after Singh’s aides were taken into custody.

The Punjab government has made it clear that it will not put up with any actions that put the peace and security of the state in danger. The central government has also been encouraged by the state administration to impose strong sanctions on individuals who support terrorism and secessionism in the nation.

People in the state are buzzing over Amritpal Singh’s four aides’ arrival in Dibrugarh and keenly monitoring the proceedings. It will be interesting to observe how the case develops over the next few days because it is likely to have wider ramifications.
