Lovlina Borgohain Enters Into Final of World Boxing Championships

Guwahati: Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain defeated Chinese boxer Li Quan on March 23 to enter the finals of Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi.

Borgohain entered the 75 kg final after defeating two-time Olympic medalist and former world champion Li Qian by a score of 4-2.

Along with Borgohain, famed boxer Nikhat Zareen advanced to the 50 kg final after defeating Colombia’s Ingrid Valencia by unanimous decision.

On the other side, Nitu Ghanghas also reached the championship round after defeating Alua Balkibekova of Kazakhstan in a tie-breaker.

Earlier, Saweety Boora defeated Belarus’ Viktoriya Kebikava by a score of 5-0 and Nikhat crushed Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat by a score of 5:2 in her opening round of the competition.

Afterwards, Nitu dominated her match against Madoka Wada of Japan and went on to win another bout by Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) to advance to the semifinals while Lovlina defeated Mozambican Adosinda Rady Gramane.

The 25-year-old Indian player played to her best capacity and showed off a remarkable attack and defensive combination to defeat her opponent by a unanimous vote.

“I don’t want to settle for bronze because it will be crucial for the upcoming Asian Games as well. Although today’s medal is very important to me,” Borgohain said after the match.
