Congress to Meet President Over Rahul Gandhi’s Conviction
Guwahati: Congress has made the decision to protest Rahul Gandhi’s arrest and will meet with President Droupadi Murmu alongside other parties as part of this action.
Following Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in the “Modi surname” remark case, the opposition party announced a mass agitation and promised to fight on both the legal and political fronts.
In light of the decision, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hosted a meeting at his home with the top MPs and party figures.
”After the conclusion of the meeting, the members of the party decided to stage a protest at Vijay Chowk on March 24,” several reports claimed.
AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh further said that the party would stage a protest from Parliament to Vijay Chowk on March 24 and convene a meeting with the other opposition leaders.
Additionally, the opposition parties declared that they would meet with President Droupadi Murmu on March 24 to bring up and discuss the issue.
Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi was given a two-year prison term on March 23 in a criminal defamation case.
He was found guilty by a Gujarat court for remarks he made during an electoral rally in 2019 regarding the last name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
