Assam: Election Commission To Hold Constituency Delimitation Meeting Today
Guwahati: The constituency delimitation meeting will be held in Assam on Tuesday in presence of the district election officers.
The meeting will begin at 9:00 am.
Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar and fellow commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel will be present at the conference.
The Commission wants to know the actual situation and the expectations of stakeholders and the general public about the state’s ongoing delimitation effort, according to an official announcement.
The delineation of Assam’s Assembly and Parliamentary seats has been assigned to the Election Commission of India.
This will be followed by a meeting with the Chief Secretary of the State.
Moreover, a press conference on the constituency redetermination will take place at 3 pm will be addressed by the Chief Election Commissioner.
Earlier, the top leaders of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) and the president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) decided not to take part in the consultation process of the ongoing delimitation exercise because the Election Commission of India (ECI) had not responded appropriately despite repeated reminders. The ECI on the other hand had invited the Congress delegates to meet with the Commission.
ECI in a statement urged the Congress delegates to participate in the delimitation consultation process in order to make it more inclusive and participatory .
It stated that the Indian National Congress (INC) delegation will be given priority over everyone else when they arrived in New Delhi on January 4, 2023.
