Assam: ‘Park Library’ Inaugurated in Golaghat
Guwahati: A first-of-its-kind “park library” has been inaugurated where visitors can read books while taking a walk in Golaghat district of Assam.
The facility has been set up at the Sankardev Udyan by Akhil Bharatiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan, Assam Unit and an NGO.
With a collection of around 150 books in Assamese, Hindi, and English, the library was opened to the public on Monday.The library’s purpose is to give visitors a place to relax and spend some time reading while taking in the peaceful surroundings of the park.
The books cover diverse topics ranging from fiction to current affairs, catering to all age groups said Abhishek Singha, the founder of the NGO, ‘All and Sundry.’
According to Singha, the District Agricultural Office and Office of the Joint Director of Health Services have helped build up an information, education and communication (IEC) corner on agriculture, health and other topics.
Singha continued by saying that they have made a request for book donations and that the IAS Officers’ Wives Association has already got in touch with them about it. They have also written to the Delhi University Assam Students’ Union to ask them to provide books. Also, well-maintained used books will be accepted.
The Akhil Bharatiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan’s state president, Namita Jallan stated that the library’s hours will coincide with the park’s opening and closing times.
She added that the Golaghat Municipal Board had supplied the building and other necessary resources for establishing the library.
“We have creatively developed the space, using posters and other embellishments,” Jallan added.
The initiative of the park library is to encourage individuals to read more books and to spend more time outside. The programme is becoming more well-liked by the residents and is anticipated to attract more visitors in the future.
