PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates New Integrated Terminal Building of Chennai Airport

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday  inaugurated Chennai International Airport’s new Integrated Terminal Building (Phase-1).

The cutting-edge terminal which covers 1,36,295 square meters will increase the city’s infrastructure and increase the passenger service capacity from 23 million to 30 million people annually (MPPA).

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi said, “The new terminal in Chennai airport will greatly help the people of this great city and across Tamil Nadu. The terminal building also has a flavour of the rich culture of Tamil Nadu.”

It is anticipated to improve connectivity as well as the regional economy. Skylight is one of the terminal’s distinctive features. This innovation enables the building’s interior to be illuminated by natural light that has been captured.

With traditional elements like the Kolam (a pattern or design drawn in front of South Indian residences), sarees, temples and other aspects that highlight the surrounding landscape, the new terminal is a spectacular expression of the local Tamil culture.

The integrated terminal building at Chennai Airport cost Rs 1,260 crores to develop, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The airport’s ability to serve passengers will go from 23 million passengers per year (MPPA) to 30 MPPA with the completion of this new Integrated Terminal structure.

Other dignitaries in attendance at the inauguration ceremony included Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin.
