Assamese Woman Honored With Theatre Name at UNSW
Guwahati: An Australian university named a theatre after an Assamese woman, reports stated.
Annada Gohain from Assam was honoured with a theatre at the University of New South Wales which chose to honour 17 buildings and areas in her honour.
Annada Gohain Theatre, the lecture hall G06 of the CLB at UNSW Sydney bears the name of the Assamese woman.
Gohain was the first female to earn a degree in chemical engineering from UNSW. On July 13, 1959, she earned her postgraduate degree from UNSW University.
Production of High Quality Orange Juice Concentrate was the topic of her research.
Gohain returned to Assam after earning her degree and started working at the Agriculture Department where she held the position of Additional Director until 1987, when she retired.
She made significant contributions to the field of food preservation.
Sharing the great news, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu wrote on his Twitter handle, “Heartening to learn about @UNSW’s gesture to name its theatre after Annada Gohain, the first woman to graduate from UNSW’s School of Chemical Engineering.”
“She was a trailblazer regarding women’s education and her story will continue to inspire from across the world to continue pursuing their dreams,” he added.
