Sikkim’s Tsomgo Lake Covered in White Blanket of Snow
Guwahati: Sikkim’s Tsomgo Lake was straight out of a fairy tale, covered in pure white marvel attracting tourists to this hill paradise in the Northeast after images of the area went viral on social media.
There was a significant amount of snowfall in the state on Sunday and the roads to Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir and Nathula were temporarily blocked.
The district administration is only providing permits to tourists up to the 15th Mile due to safety concerns following the avalanche that killed 7 people, including one child.
It should be noted that on April 4 morning, around 11 am, a massive avalanche swept away as many as 20 tourists who were playing in snowdrifts at the 13th mile along the JN Road, leading to Sikkim’s Nathu La (Indo-China border) area. As many as seven tourists were killed and 13 others were injured and taken to the hospital.
Three of the seven people who lost their lives were from Nepal, two were from Uttar Pradesh and two were from West Bengal, according to DC Gangtok Tushar G. Nikhare, IAS.
