Indian Archers Confirms 4 Medals in Asia Cup Stage 2

Guwahati, 2 May: Assam’s Jayanta Talukdar, Tushar Shelke and Mrinal Chauhan competed in the recurve and compound team event finals on Tuesday to help the Indian archery team secure four medals at the Asia Cup Stage 2 World Ranking Tournament in Tashkent.

Mrinal Chauhan, Tushar Shelke and Jayanta Talukdar, the top-seeded Indian men’s recurve team defeated Chen Yao Yuy, Mirjalol Karorov and Amirkhan Sadikov of host Uzbekistan 6-0 (56-54, 57-54, 56-53) in the semifinals. They had defeated Kyrgyzstan 6-0 (54-49, 58-48, 53-45) to get things going. The men’s recurve team’s victory has set up a gold-medal matchup against Chinese competitors for the following day.

Meanwhile, the women’s recurve team which included Sangeeta, Prachi Singh and Tanisha Verma    narrowly defeated Uzbekistan. They prevailed 5-4 in the tiebreaker (53-54, 56-49, 52-50, 52-54 and 26*-26).

The Indian women’s recurve team had defeated Saudi Arabia 6-0 (50-40, 54-47, 49-45) in the quarterfinals. In the women’s recurve final, the Indian women’s team will also compete against China. Abhishek Verma, Kushal Dalal and Amit the top-seeded compound men’s team who received a bye into the semi-final defeated Saudi Arabia 236-221 to get to the final. On Friday, they will compete for the gold medal against Hong Kong. After winning the qualification round, the compound women’s team of Parneet Kaur, Pragati and Raginee Markoo advanced to the final and will compete against Hong Kong for the gold medal.

It should be mentioned that the Asia Cup Stage 2 field is thin without the participation of heavyweights Korea. India has sending their backup team to the continental championship.
