Mizoram Chakma Council Elections Record 84% Voter Turnout
National Desk, 10 May: Election for the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) in Mizoram saw a voter turnout of over 84% on Tuesday, as per official data.
Elections that were held in 19 seats came to a calm conclusion. Due to the passing of the BJP candidate, who was allegedly slain in an altercation on May 4, the State Election Commission had annulled the election for the Rengkhashya constituency.
The Chakma council area has 34,474 voters including 17,019 women. On the other hand, there were 74 candidates were in the fray for the election. The main opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) put forth candidates for 13 seats whereas the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), the BJP and the Congress fielded candidates in every seat.
Meanwhile, counting of votes will take place on May 11.
