Assam: Newborn Found Abandoned in Dibrugarh

Guwahati, 20 May: In a tragic incident, an abandoned newborn infant was discovered alive after being buried in a mound of trash next to an embankment along the Brahmaputra river on Saturday morning in Assam’s Dibrugarh town.

The incident took place in the Dibrugarh town area of Paltan Bazar.

A resident claimed that a person in a hospital uniform dropped the newborn in a container which contain dangerous medical waste when they saw the abandoned baby girl in the carton. According to the locals, the person then fled from the scene.

The residents immediately transported the child to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh after removing it from the carton but the doctors pronounced the infant dead.

Meanwhile, the incident has caused a stir amongst the local residents in the locality.

“Nursing homes in Dibrugarh town have been engaged in various unethical activities, there should be an investigation into this. Nursing homes or Hospitals should refrain from taking the risk of conducting any illegitimate child delivery,” said another resident before the media.
