Guwahati: City Police Guidelines Ahead of Union Home Minister Visit

Guwahati, 24 May: In advance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Assam, Guwahati Traffic Police has issued an order restricting vehicular movement.

According to a formal statement from the Guwahati office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, the limits were put in place to protect the general public and allow emergency vehicles unrestricted access.

The notification states that the limitations will take effect on May 25, 2023.

The notification read, “To ensure safety of public, especially vulnerable road users like children, students, women, senior citizens and differently abled persons on the road and to give free passage to the emergency vehicles like Ambulances, Fire tenders etc, the following restrictions on the movement of vehicles shall be imposed on 25 May, 2023 during the visit of the Hon’ble Union Home Minister to Guwahati.”

According to the notification, the restrictions to be imposed are:

  • Commercial goods-carrying vehicle on National Highways 27 and 17 which pass through Guwahati City would be prohibited on May 25, 2023, from 7 am to 11:30 pm.
  • On May 25, 2023, from 9 am to 7 pm, commercial goods-carrying vehicle will be prohibited on Panjabari Road, G.S. Road, B. Barooah Road, GNB Road, MG Road, AT Road and DG Road.

It should be noted that Amit Shah will visit Assam and take part in a significant event on May 25 in Guwahati where the state government intends to distribute 45,000 appointment letters to recently hired youths across various government departments.

Additionally, during his visit Amit Shah will lay the cornerstone for the National Forensics Science University in Guwahati.

The distribution of appointment letters to newly hired employees had originally been scheduled for May 11, but it had to be delayed to May 26 due to the political and social situation in the nearby state of Manipur at the time.

Later, the distribution date for appointment letters was once more postponed to May 25.
