Assam: Hailakandi BJP Leader Held on Fraud Charges

Guwahati, 2 June: A BJP leader was apprehended by police on Thursday in Hailakandi district of Assam for allegedly defrauding the general public by promising them jobs in exchange for money.

Ansarul Haque Choudhury, a state executive member of the BJP’s minority morcha was reportedly detained by Hailakandi Police and taken to Katlicherra Police Station where he was questioned about the accusations leveled against him.

Despite being a marginal figure in the party, images of him with prominent BJP officials in the state including Pijush Hazarika and Himanta Biswa Sarma are all over his social media pages. Ansarul Haque Choudhury, a resident of Hailakandi can frequently be seen participating in activities in Guwahati.

It has come to light that he describes himself on social media as a leader of the BJP’s minority morcha and has over time earned significant riches by borrowing money from numerous people in Hailakandi. The relatives of the victims had no alternative but to turn to the police for assistance after being taken advantage of for a long time by such false promises. Dilowar Hussain, a resident of Hailakandi’s Natun Bazar who fell for Choudhury’s false promises filed a report in Katlicherra Police Station under case number 91/23. Ansarul was called to the police station after the police registered a complaint against him under sections 420, 406 and 468 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Additionally, he is accused of stealing a total of Rs 7 lakhs from Sahab Uddin, a resident of the Boalipar area in the Hailakandi district. Two cases of bounced checks totaling Rs. 4 lakh and Rs. 3.9 lakh are also filed against the BJP leader.

Additionally, Lala Police Station in Hailakandi has registered a case with case number 137/23 against him for using improper language against Badruddin Ajmal, the leader of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
