Assam State Transport Corporation’s agreement with Railways, New ISBT in Jalukbari

Guwahati, 14 June: Assam government seems to be implementing various schemes of economic development. With this aim, two MoUs signing ceremonies were organized at Janata Bhawan on Wednesday in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

It is learnt that another MoU was signed between the Directorate of Inland Water Transport and Numaligarh Refinery on the occasion.

Notably, two departments of the Government of Assam have jointly signed an agreement with NF Railway and Numaligarh Refinery to take some ambitious steps.

Assam State Transport Corporation’s 4 bighas of land in Paltanbazar will be handed over to North Eastern Railway. On Wednesday, the land belonging to the Assam State Transport Corporation was formally handed over to the North Eastern Railway. The transferred land will be used in the name of railway stations.

In return, North Eastern Railway will give the Assam State Transport Corporation 20 bighas of land in Jalukbari of the same value to the Assam State Transport Corporation. North Eastern Frontier Railway will pay Rs 5.9 crore for the expenses incurred on houses of the Assam State Transport Corporation.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Chief Manager, North Eastern Frontier Railway Chetan Kumar Srivastava, Transport Secretary Adil Khan and others were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that The Guwahati Railway Station will get the second gateway to transfer of land. The new ISBT will be on 20 bighas of land transferred by the railways.

It is to be noted that the new ISBT will be constructed near Haj Bhawan near the flyover in Jalukbari. Rs 700 crore will be spent to make Guwahati railway station state-of-the-art.

On the other hand, the new railway station will be from Agyathuri to Kamakhya at a cost of Rs 1664 crore. The Broad Gauge Railway will be constructed connecting Shilghat and Tezpur. The government will also try to bring Majuli and Darrang districts on the railway map.
