NCP leader Ajit Pawar joins NDA Govt in Maharashtra
National desk, 2 July: The leader of the National Congress Party (NCP) Ajit Pawar sworn in as the deputy chief minister of the Maharashtra on Sunday.
According to reports, after Ajit Pawar and other party officials joined the NDA administration, a total of nine NCP leaders took the oath of office as Maharashtra ministers.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister were present at the oath-taking ceremony at the Raj Bhavan.
It needs to be mentioned that, several MLAs who accompanied Ajit Pawar to Raj Bhawan were unhappy with NCP head Sharad Pawar’s decision to share the stage and form an alliance with Rahul Gandhi at the opposition unity meeting in Patna, according to sources from ANI. Additionally, there are rumours that Ajit Pawar complained after being rejected for the role of party state unit chief.
When the conference was rescheduled from its original date of July 6 with NCP chairman Sharad Pawar present, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde hurried to Raj Bhawan to join Ajit Pawar and other NCP leaders. Party working president Supriya Sule is rumoured to have attended the meeting in place of state party president Jayant Patil who was not there.
This discussion is significant since Ajit Pawar has expressed his intent to resign as the Leader of the Opposition and concentrate on party organisational duties. A decision is anticipated within two months and was discussed during the party’s national executive meeting on Wednesday in Delhi.
The leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly Ajit Pawar has the power to call a conference of lawmakers but NCP president Sharad Pawar, who was in Pune at the time claimed to be uninformed of the Mumbai gathering.
Senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal working president Supriya Sule, a few MLAs and others attended the meeting which was held at Ajit Pawar’s official mansion, “Devgiri,” in Delhi.
