Drug smuggler shot in leg while attempting to flee from police custody in Bokajan
Guwahati, 6 July: A notorious drugs trafficker was injured by police gunshot after allegedly attempting to escape from custody at Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Wednesday night.
According to reports, the accused who was injured for drug trafficking allegedly attempted to elude detention after failing to take a police officer’s service gun. The accused have been identified as Shahid Hussain.
The suspect was shot on his leg by the police when he tried to flee.
Earlier, the police had raided the home of the alleged drug trafficker in the Laharijan area and taken approximately 1.176 kilogrammes of heroin drugs concealed within 94 soap boxes crammed into a coffin.
During the raid, Shahid Hussain and his accomplice, Ashadul Rahman were arrested. The accused has long been operating a narcotics smuggling ring under the pretext of an ice plant, according to the police.
In accordance with the pertinent parts of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the police filed a complaint against the duo.
To continue the judicial process both of the arrested people have been sent to Diphu.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Assam police on Twitter for their work in eradicating the drug menace.
“On Wednesday, July 5, @karbianglongpol seized 94 cases of soap containing 1.176 kg of heroin at Laharijan along the Assam border from two drug dealers. The exemplary efforts of @assampolice in combating the drug menace are highly appreciated. Keep up the good work!,” CM tweeted.
