Lok Sabha adjourned till July 24 due to uproar over Manipur situation

National Desk, 21st July: In a tumultuous session, the Lok Sabha has been adjourned until July 24 (Monday) as chaos erupted over the prevailing situation in violence-hit Manipur.

Sources report that both houses of Parliament witnessed chaotic scenes shortly after Friday’s adjournment. Opposition MPs raised slogans and demanded a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the Manipur issue. Following the uproar, Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha Rajendra Agrawal adjourned the House, postponing further discussions to Monday.

Amidst the commotion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed the government’s readiness to discuss the Manipur issue. He stated, “I think the opposition isn’t taking the debate over Manipur seriously. The government wishes to talk about the Manipur problem. PM Modi acknowledged that the nation is ashamed of what has occurred in the state and promised stern repercussions. However, the opposition’s refusal to debate it just indicates that they are not sincere.”

In the Rajya Sabha, the situation mirrored that of the Lok Sabha, leading to an adjournment until 2:30 pm on Friday. The announcement of the adjournment was made by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, as opposition MPs continued to press their demands.

The escalating tension surrounding the Manipur issue has led to a halt in parliamentary proceedings, with the hope that cooler heads will prevail when discussions resume on Monday.
