Arrests Made in Manipur’s Viral Video Horror: Four Accused in 11-day Police Custody
National Desk, 21st July: All four accused in the horrifying viral video case in violence-struck Manipur have been sent to 11-day police custody, reports emerged on Friday.
Four persons may have been arrested in connection to the horrifying incident where two women were paraded naked and allegedly gang-raped.
The main culprit identified as Huirem Heradas Meitei, aged 32, and a resident of Awang Leikai was reportedly arrested a day after the video went viral online.
The Manipur Police reported the arrest of the otherl three culprits on Thursday, bringing the total number of arrested persons in the case to four.
The Manipur police claim that the video was shot on May 4 in B Phainom village of Kangpokpi district, where both women are accused of being gang-raped after the entire village was set on fire. A case of abduction, gang rape and murder was filed on the matter at Nongpok Sekmai Police station against unidentified miscreants.
The state police force stated that the Manipur Police is conducting raids and extensive efforts to arrest the remaining culprits as soon as possible.
The Manipur Police and central forces have set up search operations and checkpoints for inspection.
Moreover, a total of 129 naka checkpoints have been set up throughout the several districts of Manipur, and 657 persons have been apprehended in connection to the violations.
