Landmine Blast Targets Vehicle in Pakistan’s Balochistan, Killing 7 Including Union Council Chairman

International Desk, 8th August: A tragic landmine blast in Pakistan’s Panjgur district, Balochistan, has claimed the lives of at least seven individuals, including the chairman of a Union Council (UC), Ishtiaq Yaqoob. The incident occurred on Monday night when miscreants planted a remote explosive device to target a vehicle carrying Yaqoob and others who were returning from a wedding ceremony in the Balgatar area.

The remote explosive device was detonated as the vehicle reached Chakar Bazar, leading to the loss of lives. Among the victims were Mohammad Yaqoob, Ibrahim, Wajid, Fida Hussain, Sarfaraz, and Haider, all hailing from Baltagar and Panjgur, according to Dawn. Relatives of the deceased were able to confirm the identities of four of the victims at a local hospital.

This incident raises concerns about security and stability in the region, particularly since the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for a similar attack in the same area in September 2014, which resulted in the deaths of Yakub Balgatri, father of Ishaq Balgatri, and 10 companions.

Authorities are investigating the matter further and express concern over the potential involvement of the same organization in this recent incident.
