Assam: CM Sarma Declares AFSPA to Be Completely Removed; Announces Educational Initiatives

Guwahati, 15th August: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has been completely repealed in the state during his speech to commemorate Independence Day on Tuesday.

It should be noted that the AFSPA had previously been repealed in some Assamese districts due to improving peace and order. Sarma praised this action, highlighting the state’s progress in preserving peace as a historic milestone.

With regard to education, CM Sarma pledged to regularize employment for all teachers who passed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), providing them with security. He also guaranteed the regularization of higher secondary teacher contracts.

The Chief Minister announced plans for a new university in Gohpur that will have space for 10,000 students as part of his commitment to educational expansion. The university will honor the martyred liberation warrior Kanaklata Barua, better known as Birbala.

Sarma also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national leadership for the Northeast’s remarkable development. His speech emphasized a dual commitment to upholding security while promoting regional and educational advancement.
