Assam’s Tree Plantation Movement Receives Positive Response, Aims to Exceed Target
Guwahati, 23rd August: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the state government’s ambitious “Amrit Brikshya Andolan” (tree plantation movement) has garnered a strong response from the public. He expressed hope that the initiative could surpass its set target in a single day.
During a recent video conferencing session with Deputy Commissioners, CM Sarma urged officials to encourage more individuals to participate in the large-scale plantation drive scheduled for September 17. He emphasized the importance of involving as many people as possible to ensure the success of the initiative.
The movement has already seen significant engagement, with over 46 lakh applications received through the dedicated app designed for the purpose. Sarma encouraged citizens to plant multiple saplings to enhance the state’s green cover.
Individuals who register on the “Amrit Brikshya Andolan” app and upload geo-tagged photos of their sapling planting efforts will receive a direct deposit of Rs 100 in their bank accounts. Furthermore, if the planted saplings survive for three years, participants will be rewarded with an additional Rs 200.
The chief minister also outlined the state’s future goals, aiming to plant three crore commercially-viable saplings next year and increasing the target to five crore saplings by 2025. This tree plantation movement seeks to enhance environmental sustainability and promote a greener future for Assam.
