Former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gayatri Sonowal and Husband Arrested in Bajali Corruption Case

Guwahati, 3rd September: In a significant development related to the Bajali Corruption case, former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gayatri Sonowal and her husband, Bobby Singh Sharma, were apprehended at their Guwahati residence on Saturday.

After the arrests, both Gayatri Sonowal and her husband underwent comprehensive health check-ups during the night. Subsequently, Gayatri Sonowal was detained at the women’s police station in Pan Bazar, while her husband, Bobby Singh Sharma, was held at the Crime Investigation Department (CID) headquarters.

These arrests are linked to allegations made by a supari businessman, which prompted a thorough investigation into the matter. Notably, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, initiated a trap operation in the first week of August based on the complaint. However, the initial attempt to apprehend the officers was unsuccessful as they became cautious. Nonetheless, the complaint was found to be prima facie true, leading to the registration of a criminal case on August 31.

The arrests of former ASP Gayatri Sonowal and her husband mark a significant development in the ongoing Bajali Corruption case, which continues to draw attention and scrutiny. Further details regarding the case and subsequent legal proceedings are expected to unfold in the coming days.
