Huge Stash of Fake Indian Currency Seized in Assam’s Tezpur; Inter-State Racket Busted

Guwahati, 4th September: A significant quantity of counterfeit Indian currency notes was confiscated in Tezpur, Assam, following the dismantling of an inter-state racket, authorities revealed on Monday.

Reports indicate that the operation in Tezpur was initiated based on specific information about a group from Delhi arriving to collect the fake currency notes.

The Tezpur-based racket had been engaged in the production and distribution of counterfeit notes, with connections to buyers in Delhi. According to officials, the buyers had paid Rs 10 lakhs in exchange for Rs 20 lakhs worth of fake currency.

The police disclosed that the Delhi-based group had established contact with an individual named Uttam Koch, from whom they were supposed to collect the consignment of fake notes.

Two intermediaries from Delhi, involved in dealing with counterfeit currency, had communicated with Koch online and made an advance payment through online means. However, when the consignment failed to materialize, the Delhi-based group filed a complaint with the police.

Subsequently, a police operation was carried out at Uttam Koch’s residence, resulting in the discovery and seizure of the fake notes. However, officials reported that Uttam Koch managed to escape before their arrival and is currently on the run.

Additional details regarding this matter are awaited as the investigation continues.
