Indian Army and Arunachal Pradesh Government Collaborate to Organize Tawang Marathon

Northeast Desk, 6th September: In a pioneering effort, the Indian Army and the Arunachal Pradesh State Government are joining forces to host the Tawang Marathon on October 1, 2023. This event marks the first instance of a marathon of such magnitude being organized in this region of India.

Tawang, situated at an average elevation of 10,000 feet above sea level, will provide participants with a unique opportunity to take part in one of the country’s few, and perhaps most demanding, high-altitude runs.

The primary objective of this event is to put Tawang on the map for adventure sports and marathons, thereby boosting tourism in the region. Notably, the Tawang Marathon has garnered support from various branches of the Indian Armed Forces, including the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, and major Central Armed Police Forces such as the ITBP and SSB, all of which will be fielding robust teams for the event.

The Tawang Marathon will encompass several categories, including the full Marathon, Half-Marathon, 10 km, and 5 km races. Chief Minister Pema Khandu has extended his support for this initiative and has become the first registrant for the event.

This marathon is poised to be a significant step toward promoting sports and tourism in the breathtaking landscapes of Tawang, offering runners and adventure enthusiasts a challenging and memorable experience amidst the region’s pristine beauty.
