Manipur: Fresh Violence Reported in Tengnoupal District, Multiple Casualties

Northeast Desk, 8th September: A new outbreak of violence occurred in Pallel, Tengnoupal district of Manipur, with multiple casualties reported. The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) issued a statement, claiming that Meitei militants, led by Manipur Police Commando, attacked Pallel, a Kuki-Zo village in Tengnoupal District around 7 a.m.

The attack led to villagers fleeing for their safety as they were surrounded on all sides. The presence of Meira Paibis, a women’s social organization, was observed in the streets of Pallel. Several Meitei individuals who took part in the attack were believed to be injured or killed, according to the ITLF statement.

The exact cause of the clash in Pallel remains unclear at this time. Security forces have initiated the evacuation of civilians from affected areas, and some villagers have sought refuge in a BSF camp and a school.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that at least four civilians lost their lives in the incident. Further details are awaited as investigations continue.
