Assam: Attack on APDCL Workers in Goalpara District
Guwahati, 20th September: In a shocking incident, a group of miscreants attacked four workers of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) in Assam’s Goalpara district and looted cash and mobile phones from them on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Simlitola Police Station, where the miscreants stopped the departmental vehicle in which the workers were traveling and robbed them of Rs. 51,000 in cash and two mobile phones.
During the attack, four APDCL workers sustained injuries. They have been identified as Lutfar Rahman, Jahedul Islam, Jahanur Alam, and Rabiul Hussain.
The Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Dhupdhara Power Electrical Sub-Division reported that after completing the restoration work of disrupted power services at night, the power department employees were returning to the office when a group of youths stopped their vehicle and assaulted them in Simlitola, claiming they were going to commit robberies.
Both the power department and the victims have filed complaints with the Simlitola Police Station. So far, four miscreants have been identified as Rafiqul Khan, Jaydev Das, Mridul Medhi, and Amitabh Medhi.
This incident has raised safety concerns in the area, and top APDCL officials are demanding the immediate arrest of those involved.
