Guwahati Airport’s Cargo Operations Soar, Plans for Expansion Underway

Guwahati, 26th September: The Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati has experienced remarkable growth in its domestic cargo operations in recent months, handling a total of approximately 1,000 metric tonnes of cargo, both inbound and outbound, over the past three months.

This surge in cargo operations saw the airport manage 146 tons of cargo in June, followed by 411 tons in July, and an impressive 426 tons in August. As the numbers continue to rise, airport officials are gearing up to expand their cargo facilities to meet the growing demand.

Reports from the airport suggest that plans are underway for the construction of a new international cargo terminal building. The current cargo terminal, boasting state-of-the-art facilities, covers an area of 550 square meters. The expansion project is a response to the untapped potential for perishable air cargo in Assam and the entire Northeastern region.

One of the standout features of this region is its unique products, including rice, tea, orchids, and various agricultural items, all of which have significant appeal in global markets, stretching from Dubai to Singapore.

In a collaborative effort with the Assam government, the Guwahati airport is actively working towards the development of a thriving cargo market. This development is expected to not only enhance economic growth but also stimulate prosperity, particularly at the grassroots level, ultimately benefiting the residents of the region.

With the ongoing expansion plans, the airport aims to bolster its position as a key player in the cargo industry, facilitating trade and commerce, and contributing to the economic upliftment of the Northeastern region.

As the numbers continue to rise, Guwahati’s Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is poised for a promising future in the world of cargo operations, supporting both local and global trade.
