Manipur: Recovery of Sophisticated Weapons and Warlike Stores Amid Ongoing Protests

Northeast Desk, 28th September: In a significant development, a joint combing operation conducted by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in the violence-affected region of Manipur has led to the recovery of at least five sophisticated weapons, seven improvised mortars, and an array of warlike stores.

During the search operation, the joint team successfully retrieved one country-made automatic rifle, two carbine machine guns, one 9mm pistol, and one single-barrel rifle. Additionally, seven improvised mortars and various warlike stores were discovered in the general area of Bijang village, situated in the Churachandpur district of Manipur. This operation took place on September 25.

Amidst these developments, Manipur remains in a state of volatility following protests that erupted in response to the tragic deaths of two missing students. The student community has united in their demand for justice regarding the untimely demise of these two individuals. Unfortunately, the protests escalated into violence on September 27, resulting in as many as 150 students sustaining injuries and subsequently being admitted to different hospitals.

In light of these events, Manipur’s Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, has issued a call for peace, urging the people to maintain calm while assuring that justice will be delivered to the two students who were brutally killed by unidentified individuals. The situation in Manipur remains tense, and authorities are working diligently to restore order and address the concerns of the aggrieved community.
