Assam: Woman and Two Men Arrested in Connection with Gang Rape of Mentally Challenged Girl

Guwahati, 28th September: Assam police have taken into custody a woman and two men in connection with the harrowing rape of a mentally challenged girl in Bhuragaon, Morigaon district.

Reports indicate that the victim was abducted earlier this month, on September 7, and subjected to multiple gang rapes. She was tragically held captive for more than two weeks in the house of another woman, identified as Murshida Begum.

Following thorough interrogation, it was revealed that two to three individuals were involved in this heinous crime that transpired within Murshida Begum’s residence. The arrested woman, along with the two male accomplices, is currently in police custody, while efforts to apprehend other suspects are ongoing.

ASP Samiran Baishya stated, “The accused, Murshida Begum, detained the victim in her house for perhaps 12 to 13 days before the victim was found.”

The case was initiated following a missing person report filed at Morigaon Police Station. Subsequently, an investigation was launched, leading to the discovery of the missing woman and the arrest of Murshida Begum in connection with the case.

Baishya elaborated, saying, “We detained two more people after the accused woman admitted there were two to three persons involved during questioning. They are currently being held by police after we produced them in court. The investigation indicated that the victim was molested by two of the accused, and we are now looking for the second accused.”

He further stated that the missing report was lodged on September 8, and the victim was successfully rescued on September 22. The authorities are committed to pursuing justice in this distressing case, as investigations continue to identify and apprehend all responsible parties.
