Aizawl Emerges as India’s Cleanest Air City While Delhi Continues to Struggle with Pollution
Northeast Desk, 5th October: Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram, has claimed the title of having the cleanest air in India, with an exceptionally low PM2.5 level of only 11.1 micrograms per cubic meter. This remarkable achievement has been revealed through an analysis conducted by the independent think tank, Climate Trends, in collaboration with Respirer Living Sciences, a tech firm specializing in real-time IoT-based air quality monitoring devices.
The study, which analyzed government PM2.5 data from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023, provides an in-depth examination of air quality across various Indian cities, with a particular focus on those encompassed by the National Clean Air Programme. This ambitious program is committed to reducing particulate matter concentration by 40 percent by 2026, aiming to create healthier and more sustainable living environments for millions of citizens.
Despite marginal improvements in air quality, Delhi continues to grapple with the unfortunate distinction of being the most polluted city in India for the year ending September 30. The PM2.5 level in Delhi highlights the urgency of addressing air quality concerns and taking concrete measures to combat pollution in the capital.
The findings from this comprehensive study serve as an essential indicator of air quality in India, shedding light on cities that have made impressive strides in addressing pollution challenges and those that require immediate attention to improve their air quality.
