Indian Army Issues Caution Against Handling Firearms and Explosives in Teesta River Amid Sikkim Flooding

Northeast Desk, 6th October: The Indian Army has issued an urgent advisory to the residents of Sikkim, urging them not to come into contact with firearms or explosives that may have been swept into the Teesta River in the wake of severe floods.

The flooding has led to the displacement of military equipment, including firearms and explosives, into the river. Local authorities in Jalpaiguri District have already issued a warning to the public regarding this matter.

Army surveillance teams have been deployed along the river downstream. The advisory emphasizes the importance of public vigilance and encourages individuals to promptly report any unfamiliar objects, crates, packages, firearms, or suspicious items spotted in the water to the nearest police station.

Furthermore, the advisory strongly cautions against handling these items, as they pose a significant risk of causing dangerous explosions.
