Guwahati, 7th October: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has chaired a critical meeting to address recent flooding issues in Guwahati and its surrounding areas. During the meeting, various aspects related to the floods, including rainfall data and satellite imagery, were discussed.
In response to the flooding, Chief Minister Sarma has directed government officials to swiftly implement mitigation measures to reduce the impact of flooding in the region. He announced plans to strengthen the rivulet system around the city, aimed at mitigating the effects of heavy rainfall.
Assam has been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall, leading the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Guwahati to issue an orange alert for six districts in lower Assam. The districts of Kokrajhar, South Salmara, Chirang, Baksa, Barpeta, and Dhubri are expected to receive heavy rainfall from October 6 to October 7, 2023.
The city of Guwahati has been dealing with the consequences of the relentless rains, resulting in flooding in several low-lying areas. This has presented new challenges for both residents and authorities.
