27 Meghalaya Citizens Stranded in Bethlehem Due to Israel-Palestine Tensions

Northeast Desk, 7th October: 27 citizens of Meghalaya who embarked on a Holy Pilgrimage to Jerusalem are currently stranded in Bethlehem due to escalating tensions between Israel and Palestine. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has taken action to ensure their safe passage back home.

In a statement on X, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed concern for the stranded citizens and confirmed that he is in contact with the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate their safe return.

Earlier today, the Indian Embassy in Israel issued an advisory to Indian nationals residing in Israel, urging them to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines in light of the growing tensions between the Israeli government and Hamas.

The advisory includes instructions for Indian nationals to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary movement, and remain close to safety shelters. It also provides information on visiting the Israel Home Front Command website and their preparedness brochure.

The Indian Embassy has shared an emergency helpline number, +97235226748, for Indian nationals in Israel.

The advisory was issued following reports of rocket attacks by Hamas militants that resulted in casualties and prompted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare a state of emergency.

Efforts are underway to ensure the safety and return of the stranded Meghalaya citizens amid the volatile situation in the region.
