Maheshwar Thounaojam Returns to Manipur for Crucial Meeting on Poppy Destruction
Northeast Desk, 7th October: Maheshwar Thounaojam, the National Secretary of the Republican Party of India (Athawale), has returned to his home state of Manipur and is preparing for a vital meeting with Chief Minister N Biren Singh to discuss the urgent issue of poppy cultivation eradication.
Thounaojam recently met with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, where he emphasized the critical need for poppy destruction. In response to the Defence Minister’s stance, he is now set to meet with Chief Minister N Biren Singh to learn about any progress or developments regarding the eradication of poppy cultivation.
Thounaojam, who spent nearly four months outside the state campaigning for the protection of Manipur’s unity and integrity, returned amid expectations and interest in addressing the pressing challenges faced by the state.
During a one-day public meeting organized by the Coordinating Committee Against the Actions of Chin Kuki Narco-Terrorists and Illegal Immigrants at Pishum Hao Ground, Thounaojam shared details of his meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. He emphasized the ongoing crisis in Manipur and the critical importance of eradicating poppy cultivation for lasting peace. Thounaojam conveyed that Rajnath Singh is willing to issue an order for poppy destruction, contingent upon the state government’s formal approach through the proper channels.
Thounaojam urged all political parties and elected representatives to unite in addressing narco-terrorism, emphasizing the need for a collective effort across party lines to combat this threat to Manipur’s future.
His return to Manipur has renewed hopes for proactive measures to tackle the state’s pressing challenges, demonstrating his commitment to safeguarding Manipur’s unity and integrity.
