26 Students from Meghalaya Safely Return Amid Sikkim Floods

Northeast Desk, 7th October: Despite the massive flash floods in Sikkim, 26 students from Meghalaya safely arrived in their home state on October 7. These students, studying at the Himalayan Pharmacy Institute and Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology in Majhitar, East Sikkim, reached ISBT, Shillong at 6:42 pm.

The students expressed their gratitude to the government for their efforts to facilitate their return home. The government of Meghalaya arranged a vehicle from their college campus to Siliguri and then a bus from Siliguri to Shillong. In parallel, the state authorities of Sikkim organized five vehicles to evacuate the students from Meghalaya, who were stranded in Majitar, Sikkim.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang of Sikkim instructed the district administration to provide comprehensive support for the rehabilitation of displaced families. He emphasized the state government’s strategy of rescue, evacuation, and rehabilitation, with a focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of children, women, and senior citizens during these operations.

The Chief Minister also shared that ongoing rescue efforts are underway, with dedicated relief teams working diligently to expedite the return of displaced families to normalcy.
