Assam CM Distributes Financial Grants to Surrendered Cadres
Guwahati, 8th October: In a ceremony of significant importance, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over the distribution of fixed deposit certificates worth Rs 4 lakh each to 1,182 surrendered cadres from five Adivasi extremist groups in Assam. This initiative is part of the government’s comprehensive rehabilitation program for former militants who have chosen the path of peace.
The distribution of financial grants marks a critical step in the rehabilitation process for these individuals, who previously belonged to various extremist groups operating in the region. The surrendered cadres include members of Adivasi Cobra Military of Assam (ACMA), ACMA factional group, All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA), AANLA factional group, Bircha Commando Force (BCF), BCF factional group, Adivasi Peoples’ Army (APA), and Santhal Tiger Force (STF).
These cadres had formally laid down their arms on July 6, 2023, in a ceremonial function held at the International Auditorium, Srimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati. The event saw the surrender of 304 sophisticated arms and 1,460 rounds of ammunition, which included various rifles, carbines, pistols, grenades, and explosive materials.
The distribution of financial grants is a significant step toward ensuring the reintegration and rehabilitation of these individuals into mainstream society. It provides them with the means to build a new life and contribute positively to their communities and the state of Assam.
