Himanta Biswa Sarma Questions Congress’s Intentions Regarding Pakistan Leadership

Guwahati, 13th October: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma strongly criticized the Congress for their resolution on the Israel-Palestine conflict, drawing a controversial parallel with Pakistan’s stance. He didn’t hold back when addressing reporters in Jorhat, questioning the Congress’s approach to the conflict. “The Congress should have first condemned the terrorist attacks by Hamas and then expressed their views on Palestine, much like Pakistan’s stance,” Sarma stated, taking a direct swipe at the opposition party.

Sarma also challenged the Congress by asking, “Does the Congress, with such statements, wish to lead in India or Pakistan?” This rebuke came following a resolution by the Congress Working Committee (CWC), which expressed “dismay and anguish” over the Israel-Palestine war and emphasized support for the Palestinian people’s right to “land, self-government, and dignity.”

In response, Assam Congress Chief Bhupen Borah disputed Sarma’s claims, referring to the Indian National Congress’s condemnation of brutal attacks on Israel. Borah accused Sarma of following in the footsteps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, “Just like his boss Modi, the Chief Minister is resorting to falsehoods.”

The ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict has resulted in numerous casualties, with a series of attacks by Hamas and retaliatory strikes by Israel. The Israeli military reported more than 1,300 casualties, including 222 soldiers, while authorities in Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip claimed over 1,400 people killed in Israel’s offensive against the Palestinian group.
