Arunachal Pradesh: Woman with Special Needs Brutally Attacked and Sexually Assaulted
Northeast Desk, 15th October: In Taloni village, Lower Dibang Valley district, Arunachal Pradesh, a woman with special needs was brutally attacked with a machete by one Kyakang Warang before being sexually assaulted and suffering severe injuries.
The event happened on October 4 in the late evening when the accused entered the victim’s home on the pretense of seeking temporary cover from the rain before heading to the labor camp where he was stationed.
According to reports, Warang lives permanently in Warang village in the East Kameng district and had just moved to Taloni village a few days before the alleged murder was committed. He was a member of a group of laborers who were there to clear some forest.
When the victim’s family member went home after learning about the incident, she discovered the offender dozing off inside. The victim was home alone at the time, which alarmed the woman. She quickly entered the room and was surprised to see that it had been vandalized, and the victim was lying there in pain and shock.
As soon as the victim’s relative rushed outside to call for assistance, the villagers responded and caught the suspect even as he tried to flee. The people initially believed that they would handle the situation in accordance with their customary laws. Others, however, insisted on reporting the incident to the police.
After that, a formal report was made to the Roing police, who were then given custody of the accused. Police have started looking into the situation in the interim.
